Second Workshop of the US-Africa Initiative in Electronic Structure

December 14, 2021 –Preliminary announcement of the second US–Africa Initiative in Electronic Structure workshop
The second USAfri workshop is planned to be a 5-day program from May 25-29, 2022. The workshop organizers are anticipating that some participants who are traveling a large distance internationally may arrive on May 23th or 24th, 2022.
The USAfrI workshop is also potentially followed by:
- the possibility of attending the annual US Recent Developments in Electronic Structure Workshop, also held at Columbia University
- further visits within the US to develop potential working relationships with US collaborators.
Who should apply?
African university lecturers in Condensed Matter Physics and related fields, as well as postdoctoral fellows and advanced post-graduate students (masters and doctoral levels) are encouraged to apply to this USAfrI.
Women candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Selection of participants will be based on their technical background.
Priority will be given to applicants who participated in previous USAfrI programs as well as those who plan to present a talk or poster of their current work in electronic structure at the workshop.
Costs and fees
There is no fee to apply, and no registration fee to participate if selected. The Workshop Organizers are working to secure reimbursements for travel costs and to sponsor lodging and meals during the workshop, for all participants. Please submit a short statement of your financial needs and any support you have which could aid your participation.
